An Electric Rotary

by Quorneng

Many WW1 types used a rotary engine. In most cases it was quite visible so I think it is a significant part of a scale model.
Now an outrunner is in effect a rotary and can turn quite a large prop in relation to its diameter.
My idea was to scale an engine so that the bell of the outrunner was the same size as the crankcase of a scale 9 cylinder rotary.
To keep the mass of the rotating parts to a minimum this scale Gnome Monosoupape is all made from Depron. It weighs just 2gm!
This video shows it running on a 2s LiPo.

All i have to do now is to build a plane for it to go in!

I love it - surely it's only a matter of time before the manufacturers start producing one...

Thanks for sharing, let us know what it ends up in!

The Monosoupape

The Monosoupape hopefully will end up in a scale Sopwith Pup.
Small at only 24" span, the intent is for it to be as accurate as possible both inside and out.
I will post some pictures.
