Blade 400

by Matt
(Basingstoke, England)

At the moment I'm trying to fly an E-flite Blade 400. I'm teaching myself - yeah, I know, stupid!
Anyway in one month I have replaced 3 main shafts, 2 fly bars and 3 feathering shafts. Great fun though! I will persevere until it stays in the air though...

Keep at it!
by: Pete

Not stupid Matt, just difficult! ;-)
Why not consider an rc simulator, it'll accelerate your training, and doesn't hurt so much when you crash...

Another opinion

I always hurt my heli after I play simulator, sadly, but now I avoid simulator to save my heli.
P.S. I'm a beginner.

E-flite CP Pro
by: Anonymous

I have a CP Pro and believe me it's more difficult - I've spent over $150 on parts. You just try and lift your heli a few inches and keep straight, after you'll be able to fly higher and control it well.

Beginning

Well I see that it is difficult for anyone, by now I replaced for about 80$ parts, but it is the "charm" of R/C helis - a challenge...

Crashing 400s is addictive
by: Ian

I have a 400 too. I crashed it in about the first 5 mins of flying. Main shaft, feather shaft, rotor grips and 3 servos gone :D

Fun and games. I just invested in Phoenix R/C Flight Simulator which has a Blade 400 model to hopefully help me reduce my RC repair bill :)

Practice practice practice!
by: Pete

The Phoenix is a good choice, Ian - I've got one myself and it's very realistic, and the BL400 flies well on it. Get plenty of hours in on the sim, and you shouldn't have too many more crashes with the real thing ;-)

The friendly Blade 400...
by: RotorCraft

Main newbie problems seem to be; failing to use sufficient collective pitch to prevent loss of altitude prior to attaining translational lift. Also adding power too rapidly at the begining of the transition from hovering to forward flight wothout forward cyclic compensation, causing the 400 to gain excessive altituse before acquiring airspeed.
