Crashed on first flight... without flying!

by Ed Sayers
(Youngstown, Ohio)

I just finished building my PT-40 Trainer from the kit, my first time having anything to do with flying or building rc airplanes.
I had an experienced rc pilot to help balance the airplane and do the first flight, he trimmed the plane to fly properly then landed. He set up the trainer cord to my transmitter - after take off during the first turn we lost the radio signal and down she went!
I never even got to fly the plane but will be back at it again as I know these things happen...

Crashed on first flight
by: Pete

Oh no Ed, that's really bad luck! I think all rc pilots have had a crash, but most at least get to fly their plane first!
Hang in there, it'll get better ;-)

Never crashed in 30 years
by: Leroy

Hi guys. Just to say that I have learned to fly 30 years ago and NEVER had a crash due to my own mistake. My radio packed up once and I damaged a cowl on one plane and the undercarriage of a few others due to plane trimming and windy conditions. Never an outright crash - and that is the honest truth. I am probably a pain when it comes to aircraft maintenance and safety - but it has paid off.
