I just started flying RC airplanes about a year ago and the Firebird Freedom is by far the best one out of five different models I have tried.
It survived numerous crashes with little more than a scratch thanks to the sturdy wings and rubber nose cone. I finally bent the tail section so that it will no longer fly but spare parts are readily available for a reasonable price.
A flight simulator is also a big help in learning how to fly without any penalty for crashing.
I use a paved road as a runway to avoid any chance of getting my fingers chopped during a hand launch (not good for a guitar player). It does tend to pull to one side on the runway due to motor torque but I have not found this to be a big problem. I would highly recommend a Firebird Freedom airplane to anyone who wants to get started in the hobby.
