Re: learning to fly an RC helicopter

You've got a few options George, depending on what sort of rc helicopter you want to learn to fly. A coaxial one like the E-flite Blade CX3 can pretty much be flown straight out the box with no prior experience - coaxial helis are inherently very stable, but their perfomance is limited; hovering and basic circuit flying is about all you can do.
Fixed Pitch (FP) helicopters are the next step up, these are conventional single rotor helicopters but the speed of the main rotor blades is used to control altitude rather than the pitch of the blades. Nowhere near as easy to fly as a coaxial but more in line with a proper heli. Have a look at this page for an idea on getting airborne with one of those.

At the top end of the scale are the Collective Pitch helicopters (CP); these are serious business and very hard to master. I recommend practicing on an rc flight simulator or club instruction if this is what you want to fly. Ultimately they are the most rewarding type of rc helicopter to fly, but have by far the steepest learning curve.
