My First Flight-and Crash-on My Birthday

by Devin Norgarb
(Cape Town, South Africa)

It was my birthday. I took off really excited to to be in the sky for the first time. After two minutes my battery hatch fell off. Soon after the battery came along with it.
The transmitter had no control over the plane because the glow engine was doing what it wanted to at the throttle speed when the battery fell out. The servos were fixed in their position because the battery could no longer power them.
It was spinning in circles with the slight breeze into the lake. I salvaged the plane with all the servos and the engine ran perfectly after the disaster.
My Dad swam right across the lake to fetch the soaked plane. The reciever was shorted as well which cost me a bit. What went wrong is the battery hatch from vibrations which cause the battery to fall out.
Anyway, the plane is ready to fly again! It was sad and funny!

Birthday crash
by: Mark

First let me say you got a great dad! I dont think that my dad would have done that! I lost my first plane to a mechanical malfunction but unlike yours mine was totally destroyed see check for loose parts on this site in the crash section
also look at dumbthumbs and duraplanes also on this site! these are just two of my many crashes
Vibration is the enemy on a glow plane if you havent already invest in a balancer for the prop
which is where most of the problem exists I had a similar experence when I lost my radio due to a weak battery but the plane was idleing and I crashed it a soft wheat field but despite all the setbacks I love this stuff and I keep going So keep em flying and Happy Birthday!
