My Tamiya Buggy Champ build

- stages 1 to 5

These pages show the build of my 2009 Tamiya Buggy Champ, roughly in the order of the instruction manual pages. Click any image to view it larger...

The Tamiya Buggy Champ kitLeft: out of the box and ready to start, the parts of the Buggy Champ are packaged more or less as they were 30 years ago!
Note the black front bumper as per the MK1 Rough Rider - much nicer than the snot-green replacement on later models!

Gear case parts Completed gear case

Above: stage 1 in the manual covers the assembly of the gear case. Look at those shiny UJ's!

Attaching rear arms Stage 2 completed

Above: stage 2 is the attachment of the rear arms and torsion bar to the gear case.

Attaching the motor Stage 3 completed

Above: stage 3 is the attachment of the motor and rear shafts. They even kept the same colour wires on the same Mabuchi 540 motor. Note the two torsion bar halves are now joined with the torsion bar pipe.
Stage 4 in the manual is the fitting of the spur gear and plastic gear casing, not shown here (forgot the photo!).

Assembly of rear guard and roll bar Stage 5 completed

Above: stage 5 is the assembly of the famous SRB roll bar and rear guard. Gotta love those pipe joints!
