My Tamiya Buggy Champ build

- stages 16 to 20

The photos on this page don't adhere strictly to the manual stages, with stages 16 and 18 being omitted. Click any image to view it larger...
(This page continues on from the build stages 11 to 15).

Stage 16 of the manual is the checking of your radio gear. My choice of gear was a two channel Acoms set, the modern day equivalent to the set that was recommended for the original Rough Rider SRB.

Attaching RC unit Stage 17 completed

Above: stage 17 is the fitting of radio gear into the mechanism box. A very straightforward process and much improved over the cramped original Rough Rider setup; one less servo and no Rx battery pack to fit in there!

Stage 18 deals with the mechanism box lid - fixing the receiver switch and assembling the four cam locks that hold the lid to the box. Oops, forgot to take the photos!

Receiver case Stage 19 completed

Above: stage 19 is completing the mechanism box and fitting it to the chassis. Note that the Rx case is potentially redundant in the 2009 Buggy Champ if you choose to follow the manual and locate the receiver in the main mechanism box, as I did.

Assembling the wheels Painting the lettering

Above: stage 20 is wheel assembly. There are 3 parts that make up each wheel and 5 small nuts and bolts per one. Above right, painting the tyre wall lettering - a painstaking fiddly job but worth doing!
