Tamiya Sand Scorcher

Restoration account of this much-loved SRB
- page 2: more chassis detail

Following on from the start of the rebuild, here are the next stages (click on an image to view it larger)...

Front suspension components
All the components for the front suspension, cleaned up and ready to go together. The upper and lower arms are early version arms, lighter and slightly thinner than the later ones. I'll probably change them to later ones...

Front end
The completed front suspension unit attached to the chassis.
It's quite a complex little set-up, one of the many SRB features that put them ahead of their time when they were released!
The dampers weren't completely stripped and rebuilt, but were refilled with new damper oil. And in true SRB tradition, they leak nicely!

Servo saver
Another shot of the front end, this time the 'servo saver' is in place along with all the steering rods.

A rolling chassis
A rolling chassis! Everything in place apart from the waterproof radio box and front bumper.
The wheels are only temporary for the photo, they will be stripped and repainted.

Stop Press!

(May '09) Wow! Can you believe it?!

Unthinkable... Tamiya have promised a re-release of the Rough Rider! Not a cheapy, plasticy reproduction but a full-blown metal parts and all the trimmings version, exactly like the original and improved in a few areas.

This is fantastic news for any SRB fans, myself included! Release date is supposedly July 16th 2009 - Google 'Tamiya Rough Rider / Buggy Champ' (its re-re name), model code TA58441 to keep up to date.

Will they follow up with a re-re Sand Scorcher??
