Traxxas Rustler trouble

I have a Traxxas Rustler and there is smoke coming from the electronic speed control, what could be the problem?

It sounds like the ESC has burned out, this usually only happens when too much power is passing through it. Are you using a larger battery pack than it should be? If the pack is the correct size, then it could just be a faulty ESC. There's not much you can do other than replace it.
