Where'd it go?

by Gary
(Summitville, Indiana)

I was flying my PT-40 built in 1983. Just installed a brand new Futaba FASST radio and servers. Plane wouldn't take off due to broken elevator pushrod guide. No problem, 2 drops of super glue fixed it right up. Flew over 40 acre bean field and started to turn as I enterd over corn field. Why isn't it turning? @#$% I am going to have to "set down" in the CORN!
Spent 40+ hours searching covered over 120 acres of corn and never saw a scrap of airplane. Blasted aliens beemed it up before I could find it I guess. Lesson learned: if the elevator is broke due to age, then maybe the Rudder is too.

Damn those aliens
by: Pete

Oh no, that's really sickening. Maybe there's a local ultralight pilot or crop sprayer who can do a low pass over the fields - it'll be a shame to hear that the farmer found it in his machinery when he was harvesting the corn....

Finding a plane
by: Croswind

If it's relatively quiet, perhaps you could have taken the transmitter with you, wiggling the sticks and listening for the servo noise. I learned that method the hard way ...

ALIENS
by: Anonymous

THE VERY FIRST PLANE I EVER BUILT HAD THE SAME INCOUNTER WITH THOSE DARN ALIENS ALSO. I WAS FLYING OVER A HAYFIELD, WHEN I GOT READY TO TURN BACK TO WHERE I WAS THE PLANE KEPT GOING ON OVER A CORN FIELD. WE LOOKED FOR TWO DAYS TRYING TO HEAR OR SEE ANYTHING WITH NO LUCK. WE CONCLUDED THAT ALIENS TOOK MY PLANE ALSO MY FIRST PLANE. I UNDERSTAND YOUR LOSS COMPLETLY AND IF I EVER SEE OR FIND THOSE ALIENS I WILL ASK WHERE YOUR PLANE IS AFTER I GET MINE BACK!!

Where'd it go?

Most modern farm machinery have metal detection equipment to stop any metal causing damage to it
you should go and talk to the farmer so he can look out for it and let you know ,this happened at my club and he phoned the owner to come and pick it up ...good luck with your search

Seen an item on ebay that would help find a model item number 350254742399. I'm going to get one to try , I think it would fit inside most models and if lost you can get the gps coordinates to where it is ...even if someone took it away

Gone for good
by: Gary

After searching every square inch of the field I concluded that the aliens got it. The plane was old apparently in worse shape than I thought, but the receiver and servos were brand new.

Corn and trees are so similar

I once had a similar experiance with a model rocket. After liftoff, a fin on the booster stage broke off. The rocket curved sideway and shot off into a nearby forest. It was never seen again.
