Coaxial 4 ch helicopter trouble.

by Kyle

Hi, I just got my Art-Tech 4ch coaxial helicopter and started flying it and I noticed that when it went off the ground it would move to the left while it was hovering. Is this a normal thing for coaxials? Also what are trims for?

It's more common for single rotor rc helicopters to drift to the left because of the sideways thrust from the tail rotor pushing the heli sideways.
A coaxial rc helicopter, if properly trimmed, should more or less hover in the same place until any cyclic input is applied. If it's drifting one way or another then it's likely that the swashplate isn't level and you need to use the trims on the transmitter to correct that; take off from the ground and move the appropriate trims until the helicopter stabilises. For example, if the heli is drifting slightly to the left when the cyclic stick is centered, apply some right cyclic trim to correct it. Similarly, if it's drifting forward with the stick centered, apply some aft trim (move the trim back towards you).
