Crooked Engine in Corsair

by Culley

I bought an F4U Corsair. It's an RTF, but the motor is in crooked. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how can I fix it? I am totally new at RC flying. Thanks for any advice.

It's probably built-in downthrust or sidethrust - nothing to worry about!
Downthrust, where the motor points slightly downwards, and sidethrust, where the motor points slightly to one side (usually to the right) is often built in to airplanes to act against the natural torque produced by the spinning prop, and to help the plane fly naturally in a straighter line.

I have read that electric motors can be slightly offset to maintain straight flight. I am currently building the Hangar 9 Corsair and I installed a Saito FA-80 that mounts straight but it is a nitro engine.

Pete says... It doesn't matter if the motor is electric or nitro Chris, the motor mounting angle is a characteristic of the plane's design, irrelevant of its power source. Some planes use downthrust or sidethrust, or both, and some don't.

Parkzone Corsair

I have a ParkZone Focke Wulf and its motor is tilted slightly, it's normal. If you are new to rc flying don't fly the Corsair yet, buy a HobbyZone Super Cub or HobbyZone Firebird Freedom to learn on - it will save you money in repairs in the long run!
I know - I tried to fly the ParkZone Focke Wulf as a first plane, and had to buy a Firebird to learn on after crashing it and paying 70 euros to fix it!

Thank you, for the advice. I took the plane out in my driveway and gave it just a little throttle, and the plane immediately went into a right turn. I could send you picture of the motor to get your opinion. There are just maybe two hobby shops that carry planes in Fort Worth.

I have a Parkzone FU Corsair, and my motor was pointed slightly to the right. It's normal.
