Firebird Phantom Battery Cooling

by Brianna
(Heid)

Hi, I'm back with a new question... I have been flying a Firebird Phantom for a while, and recently have discovered how hot the battery has gotten.
It is not a Li-Po battery, so I'm not too worried, but the battery is hot to touch after flight. I fly the Phantom in temperatures ranging from 60F to 90F - is there any way to cool the battery?

Hi Brianna, it's normal for the packs to get hot during continuous use, and there's not a great deal that can be done.
You could try flying more on lower motor power settings, that would help a bit, or if it's possible you could try increasing the ventilation around the battery by cutting small holes in the surrounding fuselage - be very careful no to weaken it though!
Other than that, not much can be done. Be sure to let the pack cool completely before charging it again, and let it cool after charging and before flight. If you've only got 1 pack, I'd recommend buying a 2nd pack - this will give each pack longer rests between flights and charges.
