Flycat 46

by T.R.Raajendira Kkumar
(Chennai India)

The Flycat 46 is a pusher jet. The delta wings give it good speed. I have configured the model with Futaba s3003 servos and a JBA .56F engine.
The flight characteristics are normal. As with any delta wing you need to carry speed to land. One point to consider while landing is that you don't have rudder hence you need to nail the alignment to the runway.

Not enough vertical area
by: Anonymous

I have this plane and after flying it I noticed it suffers from Dutch Roll. When you straighten up after any movement on the ailerons the back of the plane will yaw from side to side.
I added 2" to the rear of the vertical stabiliser (just under elevator) and this helped. Have read on some forums that people have added more area to the wing tip fins.

Other than that it flies great. Beef up the nose gear mount area if you fly off grass. Also dont try to fit a larger engine. There is barely enough room to mount a .46 because the tail angles over the engine. Cooling may turn out to be an issue when I really start to ring it out.

46AX in mine.

You will need a remote glow adaptor. Also you have to remove the engine to replace glow plugs.

Mine needed the RX battery mounted right up the front in the nose. I cut a hatch just behind the foam nose cone on the bottom and installed a 5 cell nimh battery in there. Plane needed only a few grams of weight to balance setup like this.

Comes with metal clevises. Though the quality is questionable. I replaced everything except the pushrods with ball links or sullivan gold n clevises.

You will have to install the tank backwards to the instructions. ie: stopper of tank pointing to nose. Instructions have the tank stopper pointing towards the tail. Not ideal :(

Ailerons don't allow a very tight roll. Not enough deflection or perhaps not enough area. It's acceptable, but I would prefer a bit more authority from them.

All in all a good plane if you don't mind a little bit of work to get it setup/built right.

Winglets

Hi
Nice plane. Could you give me the measurements of the winglets as I do not have any with the kit I bought. Have you flown it? If so what were its faults please?

Prop size and Winglets

The prop I use for a .46 JBA is a 13x6 pusher. About the winglets I will just check and get back...
