The Hobbico ElectriStar EP is an outstanding example of what's to come in the world of electric rc trainer airplanes.

Just a few years ago, the idea of being able to purchase an electric-version '40' size trainer would have been unheard of, but Great Planes have done a fine job of breaking through to the next level of electric trainer airplanes, with the ElectriStar EP.
It's 63 inch wingspan sets it apart from the majority of electric planes available today, and the general performance of the ElectriStar in the air puts it on a par with many gas powered rc airplanes, especially with the Lithium Polymer motor battery pack option.
Whereas many RTF electric airplanes these days are foam/ABS molded, the Hobbico ElectriStar EP is traditional balsa and ply, also making it more similar to a gas trainer than an electric one. Covered in an attractive color scheme with MonoKote, and with all motor and radio gear installation work done for you, the final assembly time can be completed in under one hour.
As with many previous Great Planes models, only the best components are used; the motor is the ElectriStar C-42 Brushless while the radio system is Futaba's 4EXA 4-channel FM computer system, providing control to elevator, rudder and aileron with ESC to the motor.
Out of line with all other RTFs though, the motor battery pack is purchased separately. Following Hobbico's recommendations is of paramount importance to get the best from the model, and you have the option of NiMH or LiPo.
NiMH is of course the cheaper option, and take-off/flight performance of the ElectriStar is more than adequate with this option. However, the LiPo option will reward you with both longer flight times and hardier performance, but costs considerably more.
Given the fact that you have the choice, it's a good idea to talk with the seller and get their recommendation for your own flying needs.
