Beginners Guide To Flying RC Airplanes ebook

HobbyZone Champ

For an easy introduction to rc flying, the HobbyZone Champ is just the ticket!

The HobbyZone Champ RTF electric plane

Modeled on the real life Aeronca Champ, a private-use trainer/light aircraft similar to (and competitor to) the Piper Cub, the HobbyZone Champ is intended as an entry level electric rc airplane aimed at those who want to self-teach without any complications.

With a wingspan of 22 inches the Champ is a size up from the Ultra Micro rc airplanes from ParkZone, yet still small enough to be flown in a tighter area than a 'standard' size trainer plane can be flown in. This is a huge benefit and really opens up the possibilities of flying in smaller car parks, public parks and even a good sized back yard.

The familiar 1S li-po cell in the ChampLike the Ultra Micro airplanes, the Champ uses the familiar 1S 3.7v Li-Po cell for its power. The one supplied is 150mAh but the popularity of these cells means that other manufactures have jumped on the wagon and larger capacity ones are available if you shop around. Having said that, the 150mAH cell is perfectly adequate and the cost is such that you can afford to have several of them, so you can fly and charge at the same time.

Sold in RTF form (Ready To Fly), the airplane is three channel (motor, elevator & rudder) and comes with the latest 2.4GHz DSM2 radio equipment to ensure interference-free flying and positive control. Everything is supplied in the box, including the transmitter cells, and the box doubles up as a very convenient and sturdy storage and transport box for the plane.

A steerable tail wheel makes the Champ easy to handle on the ground, and chunky tyres and wing rib mouldings add to the realism of this high wing trainer. And as you'd expect from such a plane, the Champ is very stable and forgiving in the air meaning that even the complete newcomer should be able to enjoy success in a very short time.

Here's Horizon Hobby's Jim Booker to talk about the Champ in more detail:

As the video tells you, this HobbyZone Champ really is ideal for anyone looking to get in to the hobby of radio control flying. This is the sort of electric rc airplane that practically anyone can enjoy!
