HobbyZone Firebird Freedom
The HobbyZone Firebird Freedom is one of the more popular electric rc airplanes from the Firebird range, and has taught many a person to fly radio control!
The most noticeable feature on the Firebird Freedom is the Anti-Crash Technology™ (ACT) which works on the same basis as other self-levelling gyros which can be added to larger rc airplanes.
A small electronic sensor within the airplane monitors the pitch attitude of the model and if it senses that the plane is entering a steep dive (ie heading towards the ground!) it will automatically cut the motor and apply neutral positions to the control surfaces to stop the dive, leaving you enough time to pull up and regain control.
This is a great feature to have if you're learning to fly radio control airplanes, and it makes the Firebird Freedom a great airplane to buy as an introduction to the hobby. Of course, once you've gained confidence and want to try some more daring maneuvers, the sensor can be switched off so you have complete control at all times.
Other noteworthy Firebird Freedom features include:
- A 3-channel radio system in a Zone 1 airplane
- A 2-piece, mid-set, swept, plug-in wing
- Rigid, steel wire pushrods to more precisely manipulate the control surfaces
- A soft, resilient rubber nose that cushions the force of impact in the event of hard landings
HobbyZone have also gone one further still by adding their unique X-Port™ technology to the airplane.
X-Port™ technology allows you to use plug-in accessories such as the Sonic Combat Module™ to dog fight with other X-Port-equipped planes, the Aerial Drop Module™ to drop bombs or a parachutist or the Night Flight Module™ to fly at night after you've become more experienced.
These are good-fun options that aren't to be found on other electric rc airplanes, again making the Firebird Freedom a good choice for anyone looking to buy an all-round electric rc airplane that goes beyond normal rc flying.
