HobbyZone Super Cub LP
The HobbyZone Super Cub LP follows on from HobbyZone's hugely successful Super Cub RTF, one of the most popular and biggest selling electric rc trainers to date.
The Super Cub LP is, it's maybe surprising to see, almost identical to its predecessor other than the color scheme and battery pack. The physical size is the same, same three channel control to throttle, elevator and rudder and - believe it or not - the same 480 brushed motor.
The fundamental difference in power is that the Super Cub LP comes with a 3S 11.1V 1300 Li-Po battery pack, as opposed to the NiMH pack supplied with the other Super Cub.
Personally it surprises me that HobbyZone hasn't jumped on the brushless bandwagon with this new Cub, they could have easily put a brushless outrunner in this airplane, and maybe even sold it with one of their 2.4GHz DSM2 radio systems. Maybe the giveaway is the price tag; at only $10 more than the cost of its non-lipo brother, HobbyZone have obviously tried to keep the cost of this popular beginner's electric RTF rc airplane to a minimum - no bad thing, in this day and age!
In true HobbyZone fashion, this new Super Cub LP comes completely RTF, there's very little to do to get it in the air; attaching the wing, tail and landing gear and charging the Li-Po pack is about it. As you'd expect, everything - including transmitter batteries - is in the box...
One nice option for this Super Cub LP is a set of floats! If you live near a lake, converting your airplane to a floatplane is a quick and easy job. A Cub always looks good on floats, and this one is no exception, but practice those landings on land first before taking to the water!
The new Super Cub LP also features the HobbyZone Anti-Crash Technology™ as well as the X-Port™ technology, making arial fun such as bomb-dropping and infra-red combat possible.
And for those with their own DSM2 transmitter from Spektrum or JR, the Super Cub LP is also available in a Bind-N-Fly (BNF) version - a great option.
