ParkZone Habu EDF BNF
Due out this December, the ParkZone Habu EDF fills a large gap in the current market of electric ducted fan jets.
The sleek looking Habu EDF is offered in BNF and PNP versions, ParkZone's registered names that stand for Bind n' Fly and Plug n' Play respectively. BNF means that the jet is similar to an RTF model (see photo below) but only lacks the transmitter; you need your own DSM2 compatible Tx (DX7, Dx6i etc.) to operate the model. The Habu BNF is equipped with the Spektrum AR500 5 channel receiver, and as usual the binding process is quick and easy.
PNP is virtually the same but lacks Tx, Rx and battery pack.
Above: like an RTF, the Habu BNF jet doesn't require much assembly
While there are plenty of RTF electric ducted fan jets out on the market, it's nice to see a popular brand name like ParkZone entering the EDF field. Their models are good quality and excellent value although the Habu EDF is priced higher than the rest of their aircraft, but understandably so I think.
The jet's power comes from the E-flite BL15 brushless outrunner motor, rated at 3200kV, coupled to a Delta-V 15 ducted fan from the same brand. A 14.8V (4S) 3200mAh 30C li-po battery pack completes the powertrain and the combination of the three components gives this Habu EDF impressive vertical performance, as any good jet should have!
But what is surprising is that ParkZone have designed the Habu to have very docile low speed handling characteristics too, perfect for those slow fly-pasts for the camera. And, as the video below shows, the handling is precise and smooth at both high and low speeds...
What a fantastic looking EDF - I for one will certainly be adding a ParkZone Habu EDF to my shopping list on its release!
