Initial starter planes for my 14 and 11 year old boys

I recently purchased a NexStar Select EP RTF by Hobbico. It came with a 6 channel Futaba radio system, a built-in PA-2 microprocesser and speedbrakes (training flaps ).
I flew a lot with my dad, and imagine will need to find a local club to brush up myself. My only thought was that a large Slow Stick might be a better format as a first trainer.
I also went for the Spectrum DX7 for myself, and any other trainer if recomended. Any thoughts on the matter are very much appreciated. I think I've spent enough money for some time, with the exception of one more trainer plane to match up with the DX7 / Buddy Box for training the kids. PS - Please remember I said I have a good amount of experience about 13 years ago...
