RC Helicopter Channels Question.

Esky Co-Comanche RC Helicopter

Hi, I'm wondering what the channels 2 and 6 do in a rc helicopter? Also how many channels do you recommend for a beginner, because I'm planning to get a 4-Channel Esky Co-Comanche Helicopter. Thanks.

Hi - the basic four channels of an rc helicopter are motor power, left/right cyclic, fore/aft cyclic and tail rotor (yaw). Additional channels for more advanced helicopters will include collective pitch control (which is actually mixed with motor power), remote gyro gain and flight mode which changes the throttle and collective pitch curves depending on how you want to fly.

A coaxial rc helicopter such as the ESky Co-Comanche will have control to motor power, cyclic and yaw but the yaw control comes from changing the speeds of the main rotors relative to each other - coaxial helis don't have a tail rotor.

If you're new to the hobby then a coaxial is the easiest type of rc helicopter to fly, no question. They are inherently very stable and can be flown safely without prior experience - you shouldn't have any problems if you do get that one.
Single rotor helicopters are much harder and have a much steeper learning curve and are best worked up to from an easier model.
