A good one to consider is E-Flite's <a href="http://www.redrockethobbies.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EFLH1250&Click=6136" target="_blank">Blade CX2</a>. This is a co-axial heli, very stable and easy to fly from the box. A single rotor helicopter is a lot harder to fly and takes a great deal of practice. But if a co-axial one like the Blade CX2 isn't what he had in mind, then a simple 4 channel Fixed Pitch one will be OK, something like a Walkera Dragonfly 4 or EF Sabre. The FP helicopters are more of a handful, hence the 'how old are the kids?' remark ;-)
