RC trucks ('non-Monster')
When you mention rc trucks it's normally a Monster Truck that comes to mind, but this page will introduce you to other types of radio control truck, as MTs are covered here.
RC trucks, like any other vehicle, can be scale or non-scale ('scale' meaning that it has been modeled from a real-life truck), and nitro, electric or 2 stroke gasoline powered .
By far the most popular kind of rc trucks are the stadium trucks. They're built very robustly and can be driven on rougher surfaces than a normal on-road car. Stadium trucks are perfect for dirt tracks and are a lot fun to drive - they can reach fast speeds and have great handling characteristics too.
A nice example of a 2WD rc truck is the Traxxas Nitro Sport RTR Stadium Truck, shown below:
The Nitro Sport is a popular choice both as a first time model or for club-level racing, and Traxxas have long been one of the favorite manufacturers of rc trucks. The Nitro Sport is a very typical example of such products, but of course there are electric stadium trucks also available. These are cheaper to buy and easier to run, but a nitro truck will reward you with more exhilaration at the track!
Mini & micro RC trucks
Everything in the radio control world is getting smaller and smaller as technology advances, and rc trucks are no exception.
Team Losi seem to be leading the way currently, with their 1:18 and 1:36 scale vehicles. These are great little trucks, perfectly suited to racing around the house as well as the back yard or club track!
Scale RC trucks
It's more common for scale rc trucks to be electric powered, although this isn't always the case. The Big Rig trucks and semi-trailers are very popular subjects for scale-lovers, and there are some impressive models around.
Scale trucks are generally not made for racing, but that's not to say that you can't organize your own street race with friends!
They can be purchased in RTR form (more commonly) or true kit form, depending on your preference. Shown below are a couple of examples of scale electric powered models available as kits:

This Ford F-150 Lightning is a nice utility truck kit.

The King Hauler Truck from Tamiya is a great example of a scale tractor truck.
Whatever your personal preference, driving rc trucks is a lot of fun whether you race at a club or just around your home. Stadium trucks are one step up from rc buggies (also heaps of fun!) and will reward you with a bit more exhilaration - particularly a nitro model like the Nitro Sport, shown above.
