Seagull Arising Star Trainer ARF

With so many trainers out there it sure is hard to decide which one to go with! My first choice was the Hanger 9 Arrow 40 - it has a semi-symmetrical wing to it and with all the flying I've been doing on the simulator I figured it would be a good choice.
Thankfully it wasn't available locally. Further consideration prompted me to go with a regular trainer with dihedral in the wing, figured it would save me money in the long run. This particular model also just happened to be in stock at the local hobby shop.

It came as part of a package recommended by Sig Manu. A Hitec Laser 4 FM radio system and an Aviatronics AV-46 engine made up the rest of the package.

It was pretty slow going since I was putting it together before I found this web site and forum. Pete has been an invaluable source of information since I started posting to the forum.
Now it's all ready to go for it's maiden flight, and I am just stoked. (Hope the countless hours on the flight sim pay off) :)

Arising Star
by: steve

I just got an Arising Star and I have an engine on the way called a Leo 46. Is this any good as I am new to rc flying, and what is the Arising Star flying like, is it difficult to master without a simulator as there is no way I can use a simulator.

Hi Steve, my Arising Star which alas is no longer with us, was an awesome flying trainer. I am not familiar with the engine you are putting on it. I originally purchased a cheaper .46 size, it worked ok but there were quite a few white knuckled dead sticks.
I have since changed to genuine OS engines and am very pleased with the results. As for flying without practice on a sim, I strongly recommend that if you can't use a sim to find an instructor that can help you to learn with a buddy box. Otherwise you WILL crash and it is very disappointing and discouraging to have to pick up pieces of your plane you spent good money on.
If you don't have access to an instructor either, my advice would be to temporarily shelf your Arising Star and start with something like the Parkzone Ember or Vapor. These are small electric indoor flyers that are quite forgiving and hold up quite well to crashes. The key is to not give up because if you fly long enough you are pretty much guaranteed to crash some time.
I have been in the hobby now for several years and I am very glad I got involved and stuck with it.
