Yellow Bee

Any tips for a first timer on the Yellow Bee? My very first flight ended with a broken wing. Is there any documentation on flying it?

Thanks in advance.

Yellow Bee electric RC plane
by: Chief Redelk

I bought one, it did not fly well. Thought it was bad, so I bought another. The Yellow Bee needs a rudder, it drops a wing and comes crashing down. I had bad luck with mine. Maybe a rudder could be rigged up and if so maybe it could fly and not crash. Buy the HZ Phantom instead.

yellow bee crashing
by: Anonymous

I been a Bee owner for a while and if theres no wind it's manageable, but the ideal zero wind is hard to wait for, voila i crash -I'm also not a NiMH fan, I'm trying to find a 4.8 lipo but nothing so far

I could not get mine to go straight or to the right. I'm looking for something that I have control of to fly in the park. Lots of glue and tape..I keep trying.

Yellow Bee In A Tree...LOL
by: DWG

My 3rd attempt started out being a successful flight but it was probably a little too windy and it was up about 200 ft and I was unable to control the steering. It just kept flying in circles.
I shut off the remote and it just kept gliding and drifted way north of my house and ended up in the woods in a tall tree.
I am a first timer. I want to get another one since they are so cheap. I know you can get spare parts. I still have the radio controller and spare propellors. I need a fuselage, wings and landing gear. Does the fuselage come with the electronics and motors? Or is everything pieced out seperately?

Anywhere I can get some cheap propellers for my Yellow Bee? I found a website with some but there was a $10 shipping fee, any cheaper sites or even stores?

Love it!
by: Jeff CO.

I've bought a few Yello Bees for spare parts when they are on sale. This thing flies great.
A few spills here and there but after practice I can fly for an hour and take it home in one piece.

Determined But not sucessful...... Yet.
by: Gary T.

I bought one of these at harbor frieght for around $29 on sale. I have tried many times to fly this darn thing but to date I have never been able to get more than about a 200 - 300' flight out of it! And the flight characteristics keep changing after crashes. I am a complete "newbie" to RC planes although not new to RC cars. I'm bound and determined to get this thing set up correctly some day and make a GOOD flight where the plane doesn't come down UNTIL I tell it too..

Our first time out, and 2nd time out
by: TS

I got one for my 10 year old son for Xmas. On the first flight I crashed it and split the wing in 4 places. Lucky I purchased some extra at Harbor freight. Next day we started out with just touch and go on the parking lot. That worked out really well. We did touch and go for 30 minutes, no major damage.

Next day with full charge we took it for touch and go again, this time keeping full power on takeoff, it go to about 200' up and 500' north, we cut the power and watched it glide to the road way about 1000' east. Luck no cars that morning and we retrieved it with out issue.

Now we are going to try this every time. The flight controls suck! I have big glider and with no rudder and the trim controls suck it makes it hard to do any left or right turns on command. It seems the wind does most of the control. So the light wind or zero wind is really necessary.

So far I am please with the gift.

Yellow Bee RC Airplane
by: BICCAF

Just bought and flew the Yellow Bee RC Airplane. Because there was snow and mud on the ground I hand threw the plane and it flew around 300' high. I flew it around a baseball field. It flew very well but landing was tough. I had the landing gear on and it would nose into the ground upon touching downeat trainer.

If so then which model as we all here own?
by: Anonymous

Does anyone have any comments on what to get if this is not the one to get? I wonder if it's a good idea to get balsa wood and create your own wing?
I am charging my battery, and love to get a spare a lot longer 7.00 replacements is as easy as a Google search, but if in stock I tend to agree or not.
Wings at harbour freight instore was 3.50 , plane 40, a penny less, and the Multiplex E-star should we have gotten that. But hey, anything up must come down, and must break sometime. Practice makes perfect they say.

Flying it joe

Well I am looking for something different and saw your comment. I happen to have a Yellow Bee. The best way to learn and get a feel for the bird is to fly it in little to no wind. Mostly dusk hours.

Yellow Bee
by: Anonymous

Yellow Bee written by Isaac in Mizoram, 10 years old...
My uncle bought me a Yellow Bee rc plane but it was without a charger and a battery but the plane was a little old one now so I had a rc helicopter and it uses a 6 pack battery and a charger so I took the battery and make 4 pack battery for the plane.
After 2 months later I tried to fly it but I didn't, after a week the plane fell from where I hung it and broke the tail but we stick it again and it was good as new. Thats all thank you

Modified to fly much better
by: Anonymous

Very much worth your time to make some changes to your Yellow Bee.
1. Mark 5" from each wingtip and scribe a line across the wing tips using a roofing square like you find at Harbor Freight. Then carefully slice about half through the wing on both marks. Use low temp glue gun to glue these cuts. You will need to make a 10° cardboard gauge to set the angle after gluing. Bend the wingtip down and fill with cool melt glue. Quickly bend the tip upward while holding the gauge under the wing till glue sets. After about 3 minutes, do the same with other wingtip. This will settle out to about a 7° dihedral for excellent handling in much higher winds.

2. The CG needs to be moved back some. You will need to carve out the plastic stop behind the battery compartment and glue a piece of balsa about ½" toward the rear of fuselage so battery can be moved more to the rear. Place scrap piece of Styrofoam in front of battery for snug fit.

3. Carefully align and drill a 1/16 hole through the fuselage so that a carbon fiber rod will fit across and hold the battery down. The rod should extend 3/16" on each side of fuselage so you can hook a small rubber band over the cockpit. This will hold the battery and cockpit in place in all but an extreme nose-first wreck.

4. Use the cool melt glue gun to go around the motor covers ( top & underneath wing ) and the plastic support under the wing. This will help keep the wing from breaking at the weak spots where motors are.

5. You might need to trim off some of the tail wing plastic that has to be screwed down to secure tail at correct angle. If angle is too shallow, it will not fly good.

6. Don't use the landing gear. It adds weight and can not land on grass anyway. Use a black marker to paint about 3 ( 1" ) stripes under one side of wing. This helps you see the plane better and know whether it is coming or going when very high. I'm thinking about painting the entire underside of the tail black. Once while flying in some light fog, I lost sight of it and was lucky to find it before it got too far away.

7. Guess you know that you will wreck if you hold the stick down in a turn. Has to be jogged to make the turn, but if caught in a thermal and getting out of range, you can make it dive by holding down as if making a turn. Let off soon as it is diving and be sure to run both motors full speed when it is still about 100 feet from ground. This will pull out of dive so you can land it.

Good Luck and Happy Flying!

I have lots of nice R/C planes but still like to fly my Yellow Bee.

Yellow Bee Tips
by: Urban

You are probably trying to turn your plane holding the stick for the turn. This will cause a crash every time. Just "jog" the stick by quickly returning to center and then back to the turn again. If you ever get caught in a thermal and are afraid it is getting out of range, just hold the stick into a turn and watch it dive! Let go soon as the plane dives and pull out around 100 feet from ground by giving full throttle.

The Yellow Bee can be lots of fun but the wing is a little fragile where the motor cut-outs are. Get a "low" temp small glue gun and go around the plastic covers for the motors, top and bottom. Just use a small bead and keep it moving so you don't damage the foam by getting it too hot.

Make sure the tail wing is properly down so that it is not laying too flat. I had to trim some plastic from ends of the bottom of the top clamp on one of mine. ( I found it flies great if balanced at 1-5/16" from leading edge of wing. I had to cut some plastic inside fuselage so battery could be placed more to rear. Just glue some balsa scrap with glue gun for a stop to replace what was cut out. Also add piece of foam in front of battery to secure better in position. Try tossing it into wind with nose slightly down and check if it glides good before trying to fly it up high. Try to keep it above trees or buildings till you get used to how it handles.

It will be able to fly in more wind if you measure 5 inches from each wing tip then scribe it with a ball point pen. Use a small "roofing square" on the trailing edge of wing to make this mark. Then use a flexible ruler to line up on your mark and with ball point pen - press enough to slightly groove or crease the top wing surface. This must be square 90° with the back edge of wing! After creasing both wing tips, bend them up a little and apply a bead of the "cool" melt hot glue to hold the tips up about 7 degrees for each tip. You don't need much angle but it sure helps make it stable in the wind.

Leave the landing gear off if you can fly where there is grass. It will fly best without the wheels and you can just toss it into the air, get your hand back on the controller, and then start the motors. Don't be nervous as the plane should glide straight out with plenty of time to get the motors running. Those little sharp props can really cut your fingers bad if you start them and then toss the plane. I didn't get my hand out of the way once and broke a prop with my finger!

Save your money & buy a Champ!
by: Morbi Tempus

Yea I know that $29.95 is cheap for an RC, but you get what you pay for. Then you have to buy all those props and tape. Maybe I've got a twisted (or cursed!)Yellow Bee, but I've never been able to keep it in controlled flight for longer that a minute or so. For a bit more than $80 you can get a HobbyZone Champ, which is a real airplane, 3-channel and very stable, very hardy and easy to repair when you do something stupid. Read some reviews - they're mostly in the 98 percentile.
